On November 8th, amidst the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the Shanghai Media Group (SMG) 2025 Business Innovation Cooperation Conference kicked off in Shanghai. Oriental Media City, a significant cultural industry project of the SMG, riding the wave of this year's CIIE theme, "New Era, Shared Future," officially launched its Overseas Center, bringing new vitality to the micro drama and associated industry chains. As a key collaborator with Oriental Media City, CRI Online attended the conference to witness the launch of this platform and will leverage its media resources to robustly support the business growth of the Oriental Media City Overseas Center.
In recent years, the rise of micro drama has led to a growing number of self-produced works entering the international market. While these series have addressed intellectual property concerns within China, they must still navigate the complex legal landscape across different countries and regions as they go global. To shed light on how to mitigate legal risks in this process, Meng Jie, a senior internet legal affairs specialist, vice president of the China Digital Copyright Industrial Alliances, and member of the Expert Committee of the China Television Drama Production Industry Association, was recently interviewed by CRI Online.
Brand marketing has now turned its attention to mini-series, particularly the highly sought-after "custom-made series." Some in the industry even joke, "It's no longer about placing ads in a show; its about weaving a plot into the ads."
In the mini-series The Unstoppable Foodie Queen Reborn, produced by KFC, the ancient queen Zhou Mo tries to steal a chicken leg but accidentally travels to a modern film set. While on set, she discovers a KFC chicken leg and declares its deliciousness to be on par with imperial cuisine.
